Newly Planted
Landscapes
Those who install new landscapes during drought periods
may apply for a variance to request additional watering days.
This includes new property construction. Beautification landscape projects that include aesthetic changes to existing landscapes do not qualify for a variance.
Research shows that newly planted grass can survive once-per-week
watering after only five weeks. Variances to allow additional
watering days are only given during the five-week time period
immediately following installation of new turfgrass.
Athletic Fields
Caretakers of athletic fields who need to maintain
a safe playing surface should request a variance to the ordinance.
Variance requests must include a professional irrigation system
audit, which will be reviewed by a certified irrigator. Specific
additional watering days may be granted to keep playing surfaces
safe.
Large
Properties
Through a professional irrigation system audit, owners
of large properties may demonstrate they cannot run all of
their irrigation stations simultaneously on their specified
watering day. If an additional watering day is granted, no
single area on a property can be watered more than one day
per week.
