very year SAWS honors businesses where conservation is a priority through its WaterSaver Awards program. This year, the WaterSaver Awards program celebrates its 13th anniversary. The program recognizes local and regional water conservation initiatives undertaken by our industrial, commercial and institutional water users.
San Antonio Water System along with San Antonio Business Journal seek to acknowledge those water users who have significantly increased their water use efficiency or have contributed through education or technology to water conservation in the San Antonio region.
Collectively, those honored by the WaterSaver Awards Program over the past 12 years have reduced water consumption in San Antonio by more than 1.5 billion gallons per year. It is the hope of the WaterSaver Award sponsors that by recognizing the efforts of a select few, we are showcasing models that can be adopted by others at the local, state, and even national level.
An additional award category, WaterSaver Too, is also highlighted during the awards ceremony. This award provides recognition to those nonprofit, educational and neighborhood organizations that have also demonstrated leadership in water conservation.
All proceeds from this event are used to fund two fellowship grants for upper level college or graduate level students who are pursuing a water-related career.
A luncheon honoring the 2009 WaterSaver Award recipients will be held June 30, 11:30 a.m., at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel, located at 101 Bowie St. If you would like to attend the WaterSaver Awards luncheon, contact San Antonio Water System at 233-3651.
Special thanks to the San Antonio Business Journal for their generous support.
