Water Conservation, Water Quality, Wildlife
and Open Space Community Outreach
 The Golf Fore SA is the first
program of its kind to help golf courses develop
conservation and community-oriented practices and
provide certification for their
achievement. Golf Fore SA provides an opportunity
for golf courses to certify their performance in
the areas of water conservation, water quality,
wildlife habitat and open space, and community outreach.
Each level of achievement includes progressively
challenging criteria for performance
in these areas. In turn SAWS will certify golf courses
participating in the program. The highest level of
achievement in the program is a 'Double
Eagle Course.'
Purpose of the Program
- Conserve water
- Protect underground and surface water quality
- Enhance and protect the natural beauty of land
utilized for golf courses
- Maximize the potential of out-of-play land for
wildlife and the community
- Encourage community interaction programs that
allow for new ways that citizens can benefit
from golf courses
Program Criteria
Golf courses are evaluated in
four areas:
- Water conservation
- Water quality
- Wildlife habitat and open space
- Community outreach
There are four levels of achievement
for each of
the
four
areas of evaluation:
Course Teams will evaluate and score the course
based on specific criteria or requirements associated
with each area of evaluation.
How the Program Works

Step One:

The golf course completes a Pledge
Card committing to the program
and returns it to the San Antonio
Water System
|
|
Step Two:
|
A Golf Fore SA Course Team
comprised of the participating golf course superintendent,
SAWS
representatives, and community
representatives is formed and meets
to evaluate the course based on
program criteria
|
|
Step Three:
|
The Course Team develops an
individualized three year plan of
continuous improvement
|
|
Step Four:
|
The plan is implemented according to
the schedule and milestones agreed
upon by the Course Team
|
Golf Fore SA Program Recognition
- The San Antonio Water System web site, will have the plans
and achievements
of participating golf courses available
to
the public for review
 Golf Courses
that achieve
a Birdie level or better
will have the use of the
Golf Fore SA “Good
Coursekeeping Seal”- Golfers are encouraged to consider this status
when selecting to play an area golf
course
San Antonio Water System.
