Water-saving Plant List

These low-water plants are approved by SAWS for landscapes in the San Antonio area. To guarantee eligibility for SAWS landscape rebates, you must only use plants from this approved list. To suggest additions to the list, contact the SAWS Conservation Division.

Plants that complete their life cycle in one growing season.
image Cacti and Succulents
Plants that have succulent stems and branches with scales or spines instead of leaves and are found especially in dry areas.

image Groundcover

image Perennials
Plants that live for several years, or come back annually usually with new herbaceous growth.

image Shrubs - Large
Not taller than 25 feet at maturity
image Shrubs - Medium
Not taller than 10 feet at maturity
image Shrubs - Small
Not taller than six feet at maturity
image Trees
Small: 10-25 feet; Medium: 25-40 feet; Large: 40 feet and higher
