Citation FAQ

SAWS Water Waster List

When a particular home, business or other location is repeatedly reported for water waste even after a warning has been issued, it may be placed on the SAWS Water Waster List.

Water Waster List locations receive special attention from patrolling San Antonio Police Department water enforcement officers. If an enforcement officer observes any violation at a Water Waster List location, a misdemeanor citation may be issued, requiring a court appearance and possible fine.

Important Note: A citation may be given for any violation. It does not have to be the same violation previously reported. Please read our What is Water Waste page for a list of common violations.

If no additional violations are reported or observed at a given location for a period of six months, the property is removed from the Water Waster List.

Note: Watering on the wrong day or time may result in a citation being issued without prior warning, if witnessed in person by an enforcement officer.

Other Ways to End Up on the Water Waster List
