- Providing high school students and teachers background information about local, regional, and historical water issues through field observations and hands-on investigations.
- Offering SAWS staff as a resource to SWAT members and keeping them up-to-date on events and issues at SAWS.
- Connecting SWAT members with community partners who are also involved with water resource issues.
- Providing a service-learning opportunity that will motivate members on subjects such as the environment and their community.
- Involving members in their community by requiring water based "Service Learning Projects".
- Increasing members' self-confidence and professionalism.
- Transforming SWAT members from applied science to active citizenship.
