Water Conservation Fellowship

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

San Antonio Water System is proud to offer the selected recipient of the Water Conservation Fellowship work experience under a paid internship.  The SAWS Internship will take place one semester in the year following award. The Water Conservation Fellowship recipient will have the opportunity to work within the SAWS’ Conservation Department.  Work will be full time during the summer, fall or winter semester following award.

Invitations for the SAWS Internship will be extended to the recipients of the Water Conservation Fellowship sponsored by KONO Radio and the San Antonio Business Journal. To qualify, prospective candidates must submit a completed Water Conservation Fellowship Application by the posted deadline date.  The recipient will be determined based upon the criteria outlined in the Water Conservation Fellowship information packet. Applications will be reviewed by the Water Conservation Fellowship Selection Committee. The decisions of the Committee are FINAL.   

SAWS staff will contact the fellowship recipient with information regarding the internship. The recipient may be requested to interview with the Conservation Department to identify the anticipated wants and needs of both the department and recipient.

Benefits to Fellowship Recipient:

  • Experience in working for a large municipally owned utility focused on providing a long-term water supply for the San Antonio area.
  • Work closely with career professionals in the field of environmental science, governmental affairs, water acquisition and other related areas.
  • Obtain a broader understanding of the day-to-day operations of a large utility.
  • Learn the importance of the Edwards Aquifer and the impact it has on the region.
  • $2,500 stipend to cover travel and or living expenses in addition to hourly pay.
  • Hourly rate of pay will vary with experience of recipient. Range of $10.00 - $20.00 per hour.

Internship recipients must pass all selection screening processes established by SAWS.
