SWAT Program Elements
SWAT Rally
SWAT students will have the opportunity to meet other SWAT students and participate in skill-building workshops conducted at a rally held in the Fall of each school year. The Rally is sponsored by a participating school and held on a Saturday. Students attend workshops designed to introduce and build skills that might be needed in facilitating their project and also gain ideas for potential projects.
Field Investigations
SWAT students will have the opportunity to participate in a water related field investigation called From Rain To Drain: Investigating the Urban Water Cycle during the school year. The goal of this field investigation is to give students a basic understanding of the water infrastructure in their community, where their water comes from and where it goes after it has been used.
Service Learning Project
SWAT students will become actively involved in their community by completing a required Problem Based Service Learning Project on any water-related topic. This is a student designed and facilitated project. Teams are encouraged to work with a community partner and pass their findings on to interested community organizations.
SWATCon
SWAT students will be asked to pass-on their knowledge to others in the community at an end of year dinner and conference. Students report results to their peers, teachers, administrators and community leaders.
