The Mitchell Lake reclamation project is just one of many efforts by SAWS that exhibits a sincere commitment to water quality and environmental stewardship.

• Water Quality
  SAWS' long-term commitment to providing our customers with excellent drinking water has been proven through the years. Since 1936, SAWS has been rated a superior water system by the state.
  
• Golf Fore SA
  This first-of-its-kind program provides an opportunity for golf courses to certify their performance in the areas of water conservation, water quality, wildlife habitat and open space, and community outreach.
  
• Water Resource Protection
  To help ensure compliance with environmental regulations, SAWS monitors all new development over the Edwards Recharge Zone in Bexar County. In addition, we oversee the drilling and capping of water wells, monitor stormwater runoff, and participate in many other efforts to protect our lakes, rivers and streams.
  
• Water Recycling
  Each day SAWS treats millions of gallons of wastewater to near-drinking quality standards. Now a portion of that water is being pumped back into the city for industrial use and large-scale landscape irrigation.
  
• Education
  SAWS produces teaching materials, conducts educator training and sponsors special learning events that impact thousands of students and their teachers each year. Environmental responsibility is one of the key principles stressed throughout.
