SAWS Crews Handling Mission Road Sewer Spill

Aging infrastructure was under repair at time of spill

San Antonio Water System crews experienced a problem on Thursday afternoon while working on cleaning and constructing improvements to a large sewer line in the 1500 block of Mission Road.

A sewer spill was contained and quickly diverted into a nearby sewer manhole, but a small amount of sewage did reach the San Antonio River. The spill has been stopped and the site has been cleaned.  Despite the sewage being immediately routed back into the sewer collection system, public notice is required when the volume of the total spill exceeds 100,000 gallons.

No adverse impacts have been observed in the San Antonio River. SAWS crews will continue to monitor the area.

See TCEQ Notice (PDF) for more details.
