SAWS Selects New Vice President for Water Resources and Conservation

New VP will direct and develop water assets for most of city

Charles E. Ahrens
SAWS officials announced today that Charles E. Ahrens has been named Vice President of Water Resources and Conservation.

Ahrens was key to developing the proposed 2009 Water Management Plan which will address the city's water needs for the next fifty years. He has over 22 years of experience in public process and water resource management programs, and is a graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography – Urban and Regional Planning.

Ahrens has excellent working relationships with other water officials in San Antonio and the region. His experience of work for SAWS, Edwards Aquifer Authority, and other water agencies brings great insight to the challenges of water in San Antonio and the region.

"Chuck Ahrens is a great example of the caliber of employees that we have at SAWS," said Robert R. Puente, President and CEO of SAWS. "By having all the key skills, plus already knowing and being a part of the development process of the 2009 Water Management Plan, he can hit the ground running. I'm very pleased that he will be leading our water resources and conservation areas."

"I'm very excited about the new challenges that this position will bring," said Ahrens. "Our proposed 2009 Water Management Plan is a roadmap for the water resource needs of San Antonio. I look forward to leading our efforts into the future."

As Vice President of Water Resources and Conservation, Ahrens will lead a staff of 64 professionals responsible for the development and implementation of programs and services in the areas of water resources and water conservation.
