New school year, not the same old water story!

San Antonio Water System is launching a new water education curriculum this spring for elementary students. With programs for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, the curriculum provides age-appropriate programs and activities to educate students on area water issues.
SAWS will introduce the new elementary school curriculum to students in the Northside Independent School District this spring as a pilot program, with plans to expand the program to other districts in the San Antonio area in the coming school years. The district plans to use the SAWS program in all of its K-5 classrooms.
"SAWS educational programs encourage local students to become water-literate citizens by learning and understanding our local water issues," said Greg Wukasch, External Relations Specialist with SAWS Education Outreach program. “The Northside Independent School District has long been supportive of SAWS water conservation and educational efforts, making them a natural fit for our pilot program."
SAWS' former elementary education curriculum focused on second grade students. With such a large amount of information to cover, the new program introduces students to water topics and local issues throughout their elementary school education, with interactive, hands-on activities for both inside and outside the classroom. Schools and teachers can adapt the programs to fit their needs, from a weeklong program to one covering just a few days.
SAWS also offers programs for middle and high school students throughout the San Antonio area. For more information on SAWS education programs, look for Waterlines on TVSA, the City of San Antonio's channel for local government news and programs. The September Waterlines program, which airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, will focus on SAWS educational programs.
