Have you had an amazing water adventure lately?
That’s what more than 500 home school students experienced at Splash! Amazing Water Adventures, the third annual event hosted by San Antonio Water System. Each year, SAWS partners with Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) and San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department to host the fun-filled day of water activities for home school families at Eisenhower Park.
“Hundreds of eager home school students join us each year to explore water education in a fun, inviting environment,” said Greg Flores, Vice President of Public Affairs for San Antonio Water System. “We continue to expand this annual event for the home school community, looking for new and interesting ways to engage the students and find lessons they can expand on in their home classroom.”
Educational events included a hike through Eisenhower Park; a look inside the Edwards Aquifer with EAA; and discovery stations focused on a variety of water issues. Students tested their agility with activities such as the Hero Challenge ladder climb, the Karst Climber rock wall, and the Hill Country Plunge. SAWS staff talked about “Don’t Feed the Grease Monster”, an exhibit to educate San Antonio about the dangers of cooking grease clogging our sewer pipes, and how to help eliminate the grease monster.
The annual home school event is part of SAWS wide-ranging educational program that brings key water issues to the classroom for elementary, middle and high school students throughout the San Antonio area. SAWS educational program focuses on surface water, ground water, wastewater treatment and drinking water issues for teachers and students of all ages. Adult and community education programs are also available.
