Your SAWS Account Number is Changing

Do you pay your water bill through your bank's bill-pay service or another third-party bill payment service?

The new SAWS account numbers have 22 characters, including two hyphens.

Take note: SAWS recently upgraded its billing and account management system. And, while your billing statement won't look any different, your account number definitely will — it will be a little longer than before.

Starting with December bills, your account number will increase to 22 characters, including two hyphens.

Customers whose payments are automatically deducted from checking or savings accounts will not need to take any action. Nor will customers who pay SAWS directly by mailing their bill stub with a check, on SAWS eBill website, in person or over the phone.

But if you pay your bill through some entity other than SAWS, like through your own bank, or via third-party bill payment service such as CheckFree, you will need to contact your bank or service provider and give them your new SAWS account number as soon as possible. This will ensure your payment is credited to the correct SAWS account.

I use bill pay through my banking institution. Will I have to make any changes?

Yes. Customers who use a service such as bill pay through their bank or a third-party bill payment service will have to update their SAWS account number with the institution/provider.

What if SAWS automatically deducts payment from my checking or savings account?

You do not need to take action because the withdrawal process uses your bank account number and routing number to deduct the payment amount – not your SAWS account number.

Will this account number change affect my bill due date or am I able to change my bill due date?

No. You will keep your current billing cycle.

You can always call SAWS Customer Service at 210-704-SAWS (7297) during regular business hours (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) Monday through Friday. NOTE: From Dec. 16-20, SAWS has temporarily expanded Customer Service Call Center hours until 7 p.m., and from Dec. 23-Jan. 3, 2014 until 6 p.m. (excluding posted holidays).
