Thunderstorms Trigger Sewer Spill
Crews from San Antonio Water System are responding to a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred in the near northeast portion of the city. Heavy rains and infiltration into the sanitary sewer resulted in a spill that exceeded the 50,000 gallon trigger for public notice.
The incident occurred on Holbrook and Ira Lee Roads in the Salado Creek area. SAWS crews are monitoring the areas and are cleaning up the area as floodwaters recede. SAWS water quality staff has contacted private well owners in the areas. Since the spills were heavily diluted by stormwater, no adverse effects are expected.
SAWS Board of Trustees is scheduled to consider an item to upgrade and replace the sanitary sewer lines feeding into the Holbrook area at their February meeting. If approved, construction in this area will begin in early 2017 and will continue through 2019.
