Water Purveyors of Bexar County

Public water companies situated in Bexar County, collectively referred to in this report as water purveyors, are community water systems. According to the Safe Drinking Water Act, P.L. 93-523, enacted by U.S. Congress in 1974, a community water system is a public water system that serves at least 15 service connections used by year-round residences (persons inhabiting the premises) or regularly serves at least 25 year-round residences.

WATER SOURCES
All water companies listed in this report are located in Bexar County and are similar in their dependence upon groundwater as their primary, if not sole source, supply. The majority of these companies withdraw water from and are totally dependent on the Edwards Aquifer as a water source. However, the Glenrose Limestone, Austin Chalk, Carrizo-Wilcox, sand, and shallow gravel formations are also utilized for the production of drinking water.
