What we do in our yards can either have a good or bad effect on
the water quality of our streams and lakes. Distributing natural
vegetation, using excess lawn chemicals and not disposing of grass
clippings and such creates a mess of problems. So before you reach
for a spray gun or fertilizer spreader, consider the effect it
may have on our water.

| H2O Tips |
| |
Only use safe, and whenever possible,
organic lawn products. Read all instructions
and use product sparingly. |
| |
| |
Never apply lawn chemicals near
waterways. |
| |
| |
Don't dump leaves or lawn clippings
in a nearby stream. Compost it. |
| |
| |
Keep storm drains near your home
clear of debris. |
| |
| |
Use gravel and stepping stones
in place of concrete for patios and walks
to help increase soil absorption of water
runoff. |
| |
| |
Rather than plastic film, use
straw or unity fabric for mulch and ground
cover. |
| |
| |
Angle gutter downspouts away from
storm drains. |
