Brackish Groundwater Desalination

Project Yield Increased up to 28,000 acre-feet

imageDue to the positive developments since 2009 with the Regional Carrizo project, the desalination plant is now scheduled to come on line in 2016 as part of the Mid-Range Program.

The Wilcox Aquifer is an ocean of brackish water right under our feet in south Bexar County, and will provide 11,200 acre-feet per year under the first phase of the project. Since 2009 studies have demonstrated that all three phases of the project can be produced in Bexar County, providing an ultimate yield of 28,000 acre-feet per year by 2026.

* An acre-foot of water is equivalent to 325,851 gallons
