Outreach Program
In summer 2009, SAWS staff began contacting county judges and city mayors in a 33-county area, stretching from Brownsville to Fort Bend and inland to San Antonio. Introducing elected officials to our plans for water management, staff began a dialogue of support, participation and cooperation for ocean desalination as a potential long-term water management strategy.
After meeting with elected officials in the region, SAWS has initiated communications with groundwater conservation districts, river authorities, regional planning groups, groundwater management areas and other interested groups in the area. In this cooperative environment, SAWS hopes to gather information to further develop an ocean desalination project as well as help counties and cities develop long-term water strategies.
