Roberto Anguiano brings 37 years of professional and leadership experience and continues to be proactive in water issues with 19 years of progressive management as well. As a career retiree of San Antonio Water System, Anguiano is familiar with the complexities of water, recycle water, water resources and stream water quality management. At SAWS he served as plant superintendent for Rilling Road, Leon Creek and Salado Creek water recycling centers, as well as the Dos Rios Water treatment plant during the construction phase.
To monitor and help guide SAWS staff in water resources development and the implementation of the 50-Year Water Resource Plan, Anguiano, upon retirement, actively served on SAWS citizens committees including the Citizens Working Group Committee for one year, and the Citizens Advisory Panel for six years. Anguiano also serves as SAWS liaison for the San Antonio River Improvement Project and SAWS member of the San Antonio Regional Disparity Study Oversight Committee.
South Side community projects also have benefited from Anguiano’s volunteerism and include his role as president of Los Vecinos de Las Misiones Community Development Corporation, the Mission Trails Project Oversight Committee and the River Improvement Oversight Committee. Anguiano’s services as chairman of the Founding Committee of the Mission San Jose Neighborhood Association; the Mayor’s Advisory Panel creating the San Antonio River Commission; vice chair of the San Antonio first annual Bird and Nature Festival; co-founder of the Annual Basura Bash San Antonio River Cleanup, which began in 1994; and co-chair of the River Improvement County Venue Tax Committee. He also is a certified member of the National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technicians.
Anguiano also has been recognized by Mission City Business and Professional Women for his leadership efforts.
Married to the former Rosie Bustillo Martinez, a Canary Island descendant, they have four sons and one daughter.
