2002 Jan. Water Conservation - SAWS customer water use drops to 143 gallons per day per person.
2002 Feb. 7 Board of Trustees approve a resolution for the refunding of $300.5 million in 1992 Water System
Revenue and refunding Bonds saving ratepayers approximately $7.8 million.
2002 Feb. 15 SAWS presents the Sixth Annual Watersaver Awards, recognizing local companies who have taken
a leadership role in water conservation efforts.
2002 Feb. 20 Agreement with the Army Corps of Engineers to investigate a flood control / recharge structure located in Cibolo Creek signed.
2002 Feb. 25 SAWS delivers water from the Trinity Aquifer. This represents the first non-Edwards water to be introduced into the SAWS distribution system.
2002 Feb. 27 LCRA/SAWS Agreement for up to 150,000 acre feet per year of surface water from the Colorado River was signed. Seven year study period to determine the feasibility of the project was initiated.
2002 March 11 SAWS formalizes commitment to environmental excellence and protecting precious, natural resources by becoming a Clean Texas partner, a TCEQ program.
2002 April 4 SAWS presented several awards at the State Conference of the Texas Section of the American Water Works Association (TAWWA)/ Water Environmental Association of Texas (WEAT).
2002 April 30 Governor announces new State Water Plan for developing new long-term water resources for the State of Texas.
2002 July 31 Ground breaking ceremony for SAWS South Bexar County Aquifer Storage and Recovery facility.
2002 Aug. 2 SAWS and BexarMet start the fluoridation of San Antonio's water supply.
2002 Aug. 7 Senate panel approves $2 million for SAWS Aquifer Protection Program. The programs seeks to identify and purchase environmentally sensitive properties directly above the Edwards Aquifer.
2002 Sept. 26 SAWS signs agreement to provide rebate incentives for new-home buyers who include water-conserving features in their homes and landscape.
2002 Oct. 1 SAWS becomes one of the first public utilities in Texas to allow credit card payments.
2002 Oct. 4 Pretreatment Program wins national recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency.
2002 Dec. 16 Water Recycling Centers receive awards from the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies (AMSA), Dos Rios received a Gold Award and Silver Awards went to Salado and Medio.
2002 December Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District (EUWCD) and SAWS approve an Aquifer Protection and Management agreement.
2002 Dec. 17 Board approves a contract to support installation of an integrated Business Information System.
