Backflow Prevention Ordinance

Backflow Prevention Ordinance

The Safe Drinking Water Act requires the installation and maintenance of an approved backflow prevention assembly at a water service connection that may present a potential for contamination.

Through an ordinance, the city of San Antonio seeks to safegard public drinking water and protect the health of our customers by maintaining a high level of backflow prevention and cross-connection control.

Without proper protection devices, cross connections to the public water system can occur. To protect the system, backflow prevention assemblies (devices that prevent the backflow of water) are required for all connections that may present a potential source of contamination to the public water system.

For more information on the backflow ordinance or the program, please call the Backflow Prevention
section at 210-233-2421.
