New pipes will cut water losses, last for 100+ years

SAN ANTONIO – Next week San Antonio Water System will begin extensive work to replace water mains along much of East Hildebrand Ave. between McCullough Ave. and Highway 281. New pipes in the area will reduce water leaks and improve the reliability of the City’s water system.
To safely complete the work in a timely manner, portions of East Hildebrand will be completely closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week during construction.
The first intersection closure will take place at McCullough and E. Hildebrand early Monday, October 26, at approximately 3 a.m.
SAWS is encouraging drivers and those who live and work in the area, or who depend on East Hildebrand for their commute to plan ahead and allow additional travel time. For your safety, review and follow traffic routes posted online at saws.org/NewPipes since phased construction will shift street closures week to week.
Crews are installing new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, designed to perform well in the area’s challenging soil conditions. The strong, durable pipes are expected to provide reliable service for more than 100 years.
