Twice as “boring,” but twice the power. Two tunnel boring machines completed their months-long underground journeys just hours and a few feet apart in May for SAWS’ massive W-6 sewer replacement project along U.S. Highway 90 and SW Military Drive. The project to replace and upsize a giant sewer main near Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland involves five miles of tunnels, to avoid disrupting traffic and military activity on the surface. Construction is expected to be completed in 2023.
