SAWS Senior VP Receives WEAT accolade at Texas Water conference

San Antonio Water System’s Senior Vice President of Production and Treatment Jeff Haby is the 2023 recipient of the prestigious Arthur Sidney Bedell Award, in recognition of his extraordinary personal service to the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT).

Haby, who has been with SAWS since 1997, received the award this week during the Texas Water 2023 conference in Houston.

WEAT lauded Haby as a natural leader known for his “sense of humility and self-sacrifice, along with a formidable intellect.”

Haby oversees water production and treatment, wastewater treatment and recycled water, lift station operations and maintenance, electrical maintenance, and predictive maintenance. He has also overseen more than $1 billion in sewer upgrades and maintenance under the 10-year Environmental Protection Agency Consent Decree.

During the conference, SAWS also received a communications Watermark Award from the Texas Section of the American Water Works Association (TAWWA) and WEAT for its Be Ready awareness campaign, which educated customers on how to prepare for extreme winter weather. The utility earned an honorable mention for Pipes Don’t Lie, its sewer-focused communications campaign to prevent sewer overflows.
