EPA chief lauds SAWS leadership, innovation

It’s not every day a White House Cabinet member visits San Antonio. But when they do, the city’s stellar reputation for water management is sure to be a topic of interest.

SAWS President/CEO Robert Puente recently welcomed Lee Zeldin, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrator, to the utility’s H2Oaks Center.

During the April visit, Puente highlighted the one-of-a-kind facility, home to three distinct water supplies: desalinated groundwater, aquifer storage and recovery, and the Carrizo Aquifer.

“This is the type of innovation that many other areas would aspire to have for their own communities,” Zeldin said. “For San Antonio to be thinking this far ahead into the future and investing now as opposed to waiting for it to cost so much more later is a real testament to the community and its leadership.”
