SAWS is replacing aging sewer lines. Construction will be along Castroville Rd from S Acme Rd to SW 38th St, then along SW 38th St from Marbauch Ave to Estrella St. This site is part of a project with multiple sites throughout the city of San Antonio. The project will address wastewater mains in need of repair based on condition assessment through the Capacity, Management Operations, and Maintenance (CMOM) Program.

Traffic control will be in place, but you may still see lane closures and detours in active work zones. Bypass piping will be in place to maintain service.

Project Update

Sewer Rehabilitation Work Progresses

August 14, 2026

The temporary bypass system on Acme Road is currently running along Old Highway 90 to Pharis Street.

Crews are continuing manhole work near SW 38th Street and Castroville Road. Traffic control may be set up and removed throughout the day while work is underway. In some areas, barricades may remain around manholes for safety.

Temporary bypass pump stations also remain in place.

Construction Continues on Castroville Road; Some Lane Closures Remain

Work on Castroville Road continues, and traffic control remains in place.

Crews are currently working at the intersections of SW 38th Street and Segura Street, and SW 38th Street and Old Highway 90. Work will continue along SW 38th Street, where several manholes are temporarily blocked off.

Please be aware that from Segura Street and Old Highway 90 on SW 38th Street is closed, and the westbound lane on Old Highway 90 near SW 38th Street is also closed.

Starting next week, construction work will begin on Castroville Road. During construction, eastbound traffic from the Acme Road and Castroville Road intersection will be closed. We appreciate your patience and understanding while this work is completed.

Sewer Work Traffic Update

July 17, 2026

The bypass line remains in place.

Traffic control remains in place on Acme Road, from Castroville Road to Old Highway 90 and is also in place on:

  • Acme Road from Purcell Street to Old Highway 90
  • Acme Road from Old Highway 90 to Pharis Street

In addition, temporary traffic control will be set up on Castroville Road for sewer line cleaning operations. The traffic control area will extend from Acme Road and Castroville Road to Castroville Road and 38th Street. Please note that this traffic control is temporary and will be removed each afternoon. It will be set up again as needed each day while crews clean the sewer line and perform possible manhole maintenance.

Project Update

Ongoing Sewer Work Underway at Multiple Intersections

July 2, 2026

Crews are continuing work on the bypass line along Acme Road. You may see construction in these areas:

  • Acme Road and Airpark Drive
  • Acme Road and Joe Blanks Street
  • Joe Blanks Street and Pharis Street
  • Pharis Street and SW 38th Street

Crews have installed a temporary bypass line from the Zarzamora Creek drainage area and comes out on Acme Road. At the intersection of Pharis Street and SW 38th Street, the bypass system will connect to the existing sewer line and temporarily pump wastewater around the construction area while work continues.

In addition, crews are constructing new sidewalks along Zarzamora Creek from SW 39th Street eastward.

Project Update

Construction Continues with Progress Across Multiple Streets

June 18, 2026

Crews continue to fuse sewer pipe along Acme Road and behind Joe Blanks Street near the water drainage easement. Mains have already been installed under Old Highway 90 and at the two turnaround crossings on Acme Road.

Work on manholes will also continue along Castroville Road and 38th Street.

Construction is also taking place at SW 38th and Chulita. Traffic control is set up, and residents can still enter and exit the area.

Crews have completed trenches at Old Highway 90 and Air Park. Traffic control remains in place there. Crews will also work on two additional trenches.

Ongoing Construction in the Area

May 21, 2026

Crews are laying pipe south of Old Highway 90. Bypass traffic control is set up on Acme Road.

You may also see pipe along the drainage area behind SW 41st Street and Joe Blanks.

On May 21, 2026, crews will lay pipe across Old Highway 90 and stage it on the north side of the road. Work will continue with pipe welding and placement from Air Park Street, moving north toward Old Highway 90.

SAWS Share Water Line Replacement Plans

March 23, 2026

SAWS hosted a meeting with residents from Districts 5 and 6 at Westside Education and Training Center (WETC) to provide an update on the upcoming water infrastructure project.

Set to begin April 2026, this project replaces over 6,900 feet of water main – a little over the length of 9 Towers of the Americas!

During the presentation, contractors outlined key details including project timeline, process of construction, and what customers should expect when the project begins. Residents asked questions regarding traffic control, bypass installation, and neighborhood streets.
