SAWS will be replacing aging water lines with a history of breaks in the neighborhood northwest of Goliad Rd and E. Southcross Blvd intersection. Part of this work involves moving water pipes and meters from the alleys and to the streets.
The new water lines will be installed using open-cut construction, which means pavement repairs will follow. To ensure safety and minimize disruptions, traffic control will be in place. However, you may see detours and lane closures in the work zones during construction.

Construction Set to Begin This Year

At the 2025 December Board meeting, the SAWS Board approved a project to replace aging water pipes in your area. This work is important to keep the water system safe and reliable.
Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2026, and you’ll see project signs posted before work starts.

SAWS Shares Water Line Replacement Plans with Residents

SAWS staff recently met with District 3 residents at Mission Library to present the upcoming water infrastructure project.
Scheduled to begin March 2026, the project will replace approximately 17,500 feet of aging water mains—a little over the length of 23 Towers of the Americas laid end to end!
During the presentation, SAWS outlined key details including project timeline, process of construction, and what they should expect this March. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions about how the work may affect their homes and neighborhood streets.
