Sick Leave

Employees accrue sick leave each pay period. Employees may use sick leave as an absence from work due to illness or temporary disability because of sickness, injury, or pregnancy and confinement; an appointment with a doctor or illness of a member of the employee’s immediate family who requires the employee’s personal care and attention.

Vacation is a time for employees to rest, relax and pursue special interests. New employees are eligible for vacation leave after completing their introductory period of six months. Employees accrue vacation based upon their length of service.

Personal Leave

SAWS employees accrue up to 5 days of personal leave which may be used for any reason.

SAWS Cares

SAWS Cares is a positive force within the community promoting volunteerism and helping charitable organizations and residents to improve their quality of life. Together, SAWS Cares:

Employees participate in numerous events each year, including the MLK March, Basura Bash, Earth Day, United Way Charity Campaign, Back-to-School Supply Drive, San Antonio Food Bank Drive and local Leadership programs.

Inspire U

Working in partnership with the Inspire U and Communities in School programs, SAWS employees enjoy making a difference in the lives of youths in our community. Teaming up with eighth-grade students in the Edgewood Independent School District and San Antonio Independent School District, employees mentor students from career exploration to college application.

Sometimes personal problems can become too big to handle alone and begin to disrupt your personal life, making it hard to concentrate on work. SAWS wants to help employees and their families solve any problem as quickly as possible.

Employee Assistance Program

The Employee Assistance Program provides counseling services and assistance in obtaining medical intervention or additional counseling.

Short-term counseling and referral services also are available to help employees and their eligible dependents cope with a variety of problems such as:

Free Parking

SAWS provides parking for the convenience of our employees. Always display your SAWS parking permit prominently to avoid being ticketed or towed away. Remember to lock your car and park within specified areas. SAWS does not assume any liability for any loss or damages you may sustain.

The SAWS Fluid Communicators Toastmasters Club trains its members to improve their communication skills, lose their fear of public speaking and conduct more efficient and productive meetings.

On-site Fitness Center

SAWS offers a variety of initiatives for employee participation to improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our on-site fitness center includes treadmills, elliptical machines, recumbent bikes, desk treadmills, adjustable benches, dumbbells, and free weights to help employees stay healthy. On-site exercise classes are also available, including yoga, Pilates, Jazzercise and Zumba dance at certain SAWS locations.

Business Casual Dress Code

SAWS dress code balances professionalism with comfort. Employees should take pride in their jobs with a professional appearance for business. Employees are expected to exercise good judgment in dressing appropriately. Employees must wear appropriate business attire that is consistent with the business meetings they are involved in. The dress code policy is in effect year-round during SAWS business hours.
